HOW TO APPLY

To apply for long programs (Sept. 2017 to May 2018), mid-length programs (Sept. to December 2017), or short programs (June and July 2017), email the documents listed below to peass@egerabat.com, no later than April 15th, 2017.

If you are applying for a long or mid-length program, you should have AT LEAST an intermediate level in Standard Arabic.

Send us the following documents at peass@egerabat.com

1. An application form filled in online

Fill out the online application form. Do not forget to specify the number of hours of Arabic study you have had up to now, as well as the manuals you have already used.

2. A scan of your university grade transcripts

a scan of your university grade transcripts for recent years, showing that you have already taking at least 150 hours of formal Arabic study (for those who have taken Arabic classes outside higher education institutions, a scan of a language centre certificate showing the number of hours of Arabic study taken).

3. A letter of recommendation

A letter of recommendation written by an Arabic teacher, written in French, English, or Arabic, certifying that:

you have reached level B1 in the CEFRL (equivalent to Beginner3/ Intermediate 1 level on ACTFL grid)

AND/ OR

you have mastered Arabic grammar fundamentals usually mastered over the initial 150/ 200 hours of formal Arabic study: construction of nominal and verb sentence, independent pronouns – attributes and epithets -, regular and irregular plurals, inanimate subject and verb agreement, theoretical mastery of the 10 verb forms in the past/ present/ masdar/ ism’al fa’il/ ism’al maf’ûl, subjunctive, etc.

4. A one-page motivation letter written in French or English

A one-page motivation letter written in French or English in which you state why you want to join PEASS, as an intensive study program in standard Arabic applied to social science.

5. A short social science research project of 1 to 2 pages written in French in English

a short social science research project of 1 or 2 pages written in French or English, in which you briefly outline the research project that you wish to conduct on the field in Morocco.

The short research project must include the area or areas that interest you more specifically (for instance: state and social issues, education and inequality issues, management of religious field, gender and job market, minorities and discrimination, etc), the specific issue or research hypothesis you wish to explore, the social science discipline you wish to start from, the general theoretical premises you intend to use, research and data collection methodology you plan to rely on, etc.

Please note: for this short research project, applicants are not evaluated for their precision or academic rigour (according to the criteria generally used in social science), but rather for their ability to anticipate and come up with a fieldwork research project they find pertinent in the Moroccan context.

The pedagogical commission will inform you of the outcome of your application as of May 1st 2017.

If you are a candidate for one of PEASS’s short-term programs, you must send us the following documents:

FOR COMPLETE BEGINNERS

A one-page motivation letter written in French or English in which you state why you want to join PEASS, as an intensive study program in standard Arabic applied to social science. Your motivation letter must show that you are aware of the intensive nature of short study programs (25 class hours per week, daily evaluation of vocabulary acquisition, homework, etc…)

FOR STUDENTS WITH PREVIOUS ARABIC TRAINING AND STUDY

If you have studied Arabic previously, send us:

1. An application form filled in online

An application form filled in online, using the ‘how to apply’ rubric. In the application form, you will need to specify the number of Arabic class hours you have had up to now, as well as the manuals you have already used.

2. A one page motivation letter

A one-page motivation letter written in French or English in which you state why you want to join PEASS, as an intensive study program in standard Arabic applied to social science. Your motivation letter must show that you are aware of the intensive nature of short study programs (25 class hours per week, daily evaluation of vocabulary acquisition, homework, etc…).

3. A scan of your university grade transcripts

A scan of your university grade transcripts for recent years, showing the number of Arabic class hours you have had (or for those who have taken Arabic classes outside higher education institutions, a scan of a language centre certificate showing the number of hours of Arabic study taken), alongside any degree or certificate indicating the level you have reached in standard Arabic.

You can also include, if you wish, a letter of recommendation written in French, English or Arabic, by an Arabic teacher detailing the different language skills you have mastered (grammar, lexicon, oral and written comprehension, oral and written production).

 

The pedagogical commission will inform you of the outcome of your application as of May 1st 2017.
